Pianist extraordinaire, Phil Vassar, stopped by 16 Ton Studios to work on the music for the Broadway musicial, ‘Waitress’ just before the new year.
The well known songwriter has a string of country music hits a mile long. The writer of “My Next Thirty Years,” “The Last Day of My Life,” “That’s When I Love You,” and “Just Another Day in Paradise,” is writing and composing the musical score for the soon to be Broadway adaptation of the movie, ‘Waitress’ from 2007.
Mr. Vassar, well known for his energetic stadium performances is taking a new musical direction with his score for ‘Waitress.’ Like his peers Elton John, Dolly Parton, and the great Roger Miller, Mr. Vassar has his eyes set on New York’s famed Broadway for the first time and enjoying every minute of it.
I had a great conversation with Mr. Vasser last week after the session, and was blown away by the quality of the material. Keep your eyes and ears open for the new musical…you will not be disappointed with the music that this great talent will bring to the table. There is no word on when the new musical will premiere, however, you can get your Phil Vassar fix with his new release, ‘Traveling Circus,’ on Universal South Records. So, head down to your nearest music store and give it a spin…it’s fantastic! Danny White 16tonstudios@gmail.com
